Inbox empty,

My phone vibrates,
a moments elation
deleted
by a network text.
Only Facebook asks me
how I feel.
I tell it I feel
alone
and twenty ‘friends’ respond
sending hollow hugs and
‘thinking of you vibes’.
You are not one of them.
Log-in to Yahoo messenger,
your name fades to
grey.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll see
your face.
But then I remember
you’re
one Hundred miles away.

Inspired by dVerse prompt with focus on the Media
oh...felt...a bit cold and alone...and only digital hollow hugs to show...all the ways to communicate and nothing there...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, that's the kind of feeling I was going for...
DeleteThere are so many ways to ignore people now - so much for social media :-) I enjoyed this - especially as I have heard you read it out loud. Good to see you at dVerse.
ReplyDeleteHeehee thanks, glad I get to hear some of your poems allowed too :)
DeleteOh. That's sad. Hope it's not true.
ReplyDeleteIt's only been true for me once when I lost touch with a close friend. But mostly I was just trying to get across the irony of having many forms of communication, yet there is still so much loneliness...
DeleteThanks for commenting.
Isn't it ironic that social and mass media makes us more alone and so unsocial ~
ReplyDeleteAnd do we really tell the whole world how we feel ~ Good response to the prompt ~
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. Completely agree.
DeleteOh this hit home hard. Social media was created to network and I feel like on a personal level it is stuffed with a multi-dimension feeling of rejection. I love Twitter but FB is so socially confusing for me
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree about Facebook, I find it very confusing yet I log-on to it daily... hmm. Thanks for the comment :)
Deletethe modern dilemma, social media gives us the means to stay connected and yet it is so distant and sometimes a little more lonely.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the message came across properly. Thanks for the visit :)
DeleteWe face the fake intimacy daily yet go back for more.
ReplyDeleteSo true... I'm one of millions with an addiction to hollow intimacy.
DeleteThe many friends you have on Facebook can never replace a warm body because even there... the world can be so lonely.
ReplyDeleteAgreed that you really can't beat a real hug. Thanks for visiting :)
Deletei think social media is a good extension to social life...go a bit beyond the borders..but then..it def. doesn't replace real face-to-face relationships...sometimes we just need real hugs...a felt write..
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
